From concept to completion, designed and directed the implementation of a multi-disciplinary team treating 750 people with co-occurring chronic health conditions, including psychiatric conditions. (The Durham Clinic)
Persuaded the leadership of two other organizations and their boards, along with major funders, to support the multi-disciplinary team, the integration of primary care and specialty behavioral services, and the subsequent merger.
Introduced the Wagner Chronic Care model to behavioral health and guided a county mental health authority to adopt it for future program development.
Designed, conducted, and published evaluation research.
Was among the first to bring the use of evidence based practices such as Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Therapy to the care of those with serious psychiatric conditions. Established training and supervision processes to assure staff proficiency.
Managed the merger of three non-profit organizations.
Had a major role in the design and construction of facilities including the Heart of the City Health Center in Grand Rapids.
Maintained an operating surplus for each of 30 years.
Was on the ground floor of managed behavioral health care.
Founded the Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan.
